Frequient Asked Questions

What is Medical Alert System?

Medical Alert System is a round-the-clock alert and monitoring system for all kinds of emergencies, giving you peace of mind, and providing help whenever needed, in just one push of a button.

How does Medical Alert System Work?

You are given an alert pendant that you can wear around your wrist or your neck. This alert button is waterproof, meaning it can be worn in the shower, pool, or tub. The pendant serves as your panic button and pressing it will put you through a two-way conversation with the care center. The conversation is done through a medical alarm console, which you can use hands-free. However, if you are nowhere near your console and we are unable to hear your response, local paramedics will immediately be dispatched to your home for help. You can learn more about the system by visiting the System Details page and find out about different customized solutions to fit your unique needs.

Who answers my call for help?

A medical watch specialist at the center will respond to your call through the console. If you require medical assistance, we will immediately call your local EMT or EMS to get help fast. The medical watch specialist will even stay on the phone with you until help arrives.

How long does it take to get a response from your center?

You can get an almost instantaneous response after pressing your panic button. It only takes 15-30 seconds for the center to recognize your call and begin a conversation with you to find out how we can help you.

How can the paramedics get into my house?

Neighbors, family, friends or your security could have a key. You can even have your key hidden somewhere safe and like a lockbox where the EMS can find it—tell us its location and we will relay this information to the EMS. When all else fails, the EMS can simply break into your house.

How big is the Pendant and the Medical Alarm Unit?

The pendant is small and lightweight, and can easily be worn around the neck or the wrist. It is also waterproof and very convenient to wear. The console on the other hand, is just like an average telephone and can easily sit on any table.

Is the medical alert button hard to press?

The pendant or panic button is designed to be firmly pressed so false alarms can be prevented. However, there are personalized options for individuals who might have difficulties in pressing the panic buttons (for example the elderly). All clients are entitled to a 30-day trial period, and units can be returned should you be unsatisfied with them.

What if I accidentally set off the Medical Alarm?

If you ever set off your medical alarm by accident, all you need to do is tell the operator that you pressed the button accidentally. They will just disconnect your call and would not push through with any further action. The center can be contacted 24 hours a day to ensure that someone is there for your emergencies, no matter the time of day.

How far from the Medical Alert Console can I be heard?

The base unit or the console is equipped with a very sensitive speaker and microphone. In an average home, you can talk to us regardless of which room you are in. If in any occasion you are unable to talk (probably because of a stroke, heart attack or choking), local paramedics will immediately be dispatched to your house. Alternatively, you can ask about speaker pendants and remote speakers.

Can the system work outside the house?

Yes it can. Should you have an emergency outside the house the system will still work, given that you are only 600 to 1500 feet from home. You can ask about applicable services if you want protection even when you're away from home.

Is there a solution for hearing impaired users?

Not only does the system have a sensitive microphone and speaker, special units are also available for those who have hearing impairment. These units are amplified, and even when the client does not respond, a call for help will always be assumed as an emergency, and help will be sent immediately.

Is the system compatible with DSL or VOIP?

Yes. There are special units and equipment that are designed to work with specific types of phones.

How can the unit be plugged in? Do I lose my phone jack?

You don't lose your phone jack. All you need to do is plug the system in like you would an answering machine. Specify if you have VOIP, DOSL, Vonage Cable Voice, etc.

Do I need a special jack to install the Medical Alarm?

No special jacks are needed to install the alarm. Everything you need is included so installation can be as simple. However, DSL phones need a special filter.

How do I get my unit fixed if something goes wrong?

If by any case your unit gets damaged, or does not work properly, you can call the toll free hotline and we will teach you how to troubleshoot the unit over the phone. If the problem is more complicated and cannot be fixed with simple troubleshooting, a replacement unit will be set to you the same day at no charge.

What happens when the electricity goes out?

The alert system has a back-up battery pack which can last up to 5 days, should an electrical outage occurs. The battery can recharge automatically when the power is restored so it can be ready in the event of another power outage.

Can I still use my Medical Alert System if I move?

Yes. However, you must give us a written notice 24 hours prior to your move so your file can be updated with the new telephone number and address. As you re-install your unit, simply press the pendant to test the system. This way, the center can verify your new location.

Can I still be covered even when I live in a rural area?

Definitely! Medical Alert System is a national service and we can attend to you anywhere in the United States.
